Fell Behind During Tet? A Catch-Up Plan That Actually Works

Tet is a well-deserved break. Students rest, travel, visit family, and take time away from schoolwork. That is healthy. But when Tet ends, many IGCSE and IB students return to their desks with an uncomfortable feeling:

“I don’t remember where I stopped”

“Everyone else seems ahead”

“There’s too much to do. I don’t know where to start”

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone – and more importantly, it is not too late to catch up.

What students need now is not panic or marathon study sessions. They need a structured reset.

Here is a simple 7-day catch-up plan our tutors often recommend after long breaks.

Why Students Feel Lost After a Break

This is not laziness – it’s psychology.

During a break:

  • Routines disappear
  • Academic momentum slows
  • Familiar material feels distant

The issue is rarely the volume of content. It’s no knowing where to restart.

Our recommended plan helps to rebuild structure first – then progress.

Day 1 – Reset, Don’t Revise

Don’t begin intensive revision immediately.

Instead:

  • Open each subject folder
  • Review the most recent topics covered
  • List the next topics coming up in class
  • Note upcoming assessments or deadlines

Goal: Rebuild clarity

When work feels defined, anxiety reduces.

Day 2 – Revisit Familiar Material

Return to the last topic studied before Tet in 2–3 subjects.

  • Review notes
  • Go through worked examples
  • Attempt a small number of familiar questions

The aim is to restore confidence and familiarity.

Day 3 – Identify the Gaps

Ask:

  • Which topics now feel unclear?
  • Where would I struggle in a timed question?

List the gaps. Don’t solve them yet.

Clarity comes before correction.

Day 4 – Fix One Gap Properly

Choose one topic and work on it in depth.

  • Revisit explanations
  • Break down key methods
  • Redo structured questions

After a break, depth is more effective than rushing through multiple topics.

Day 5 – Reintroduce Exam Practice

Attempt timed or past-paper questions in 1–2 subjects.

Not to achieve perfect scores — but to reconnect with exam thinking.

For both IGCSE and IB students, technique and mark scheme awareness are just as important as content knowledge.

Day 6 – Plan the Next Three Weeks

Now build a simple, realistic structure covering:

  • Topics to revise each week
  • Past papers to complete
  • Subjects requiring additional focus

At this stage, the “lost” feeling is usually replaced with direction.

Day 7 – Seek Targeted Support

Many students hesitate to ask for help after a break, often thinking they should recover independently.

In reality, short-term targeted support can prevent weeks of inefficient revision and help with –

  • Clarifying complex topics quickly
  • Structuring revision properly
  • Refining exam techniques
  • Rebuilding momentum

The Reality

After Tet, students rarely fall behind in knowledge.

They fall behind in:

  • Rhythm
  • Structure
  • Confidence

And those can be rebuilt
