Our English tutor program in Language and Literature is carefully designed to support each program taught in Saigon’s international schools, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Cambridge IGCSE & A-Level and the American Common Core and Advanced Placement Programs. Led by an experienced English tutor, our approach is very different to ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching, with a key focus on the following areas: Students must have the confidence to take part in class discussions and share their ideas, but they are often too shy to do so. Tutoring helps them build these skills and believe in their own voice in a safe and supportive environment. Students can be worried about ‘getting the right answer’ and this can really limit their creativity. We encourage our students to develop their own opinions and express their ideas freely, without fear or pressure of being judged. We teach our students to evaluate what they read and build strong arguments in defence of their opinions. With support and practice, they learn to think clearly, question assumptions, and communicate their reasoning with confidence. All of our English Tutors require an English Language or Literature Degree from a leading international university. They have also excelled in the same exams their students are sitting and understand what it takes to succeed. Crucially, they also know how to build warm, supportive relationships with young people, always encouraging them to bring out their best. Building strong foundational skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening through inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking across a wide range of text types. Mastering IGCSE English Language and Literature requires strong analytical thinking, clear written communication, and a deep understanding of language, themes, and literary techniques. Successfully developing advanced analytical skills, critical interpretation, and the ability to craft sophisticated, original arguments across a range of texts, media and contexts. Excelling in IB Language A: Language and Literature requires global-minded critical thinking, textual analysis, and articulate expression across diverse media, genres, and cultural contexts. Language B requires precise and controlled use of language as well as cultural and contextual engagement with modern ideas. Success in AP English Language and Literature requires sharp rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and the ability to craft compelling, evidence-based arguments across a variety of texts and genres. The International Tutoring Group offers Micro Group and 1-1 English Tutoring in both our centres. In addition, we can organise seamless online tutoring in the convenience of your own home.
